A Case of Treacheal Agenesis with Tracheoesophageal Fistula
Abstract
Tracheal agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly that invariably results in death. These anomalies are thought to arise from defective differentiation of the primitive foregut into trachea and esophagus, and approximately half of these cases are
associated with other congenital anomalies that may be incompatible with survival. Clinical features that might indicate tracheal agenesis include antenatal polyhydramnios, severe respiratory distress, absence of an audible cry, failure to
advance
an
endotracheal tube beyond the larynx, clinical improvement after esophageal intubation.
We experienced a case of tracheal agenesis with tracheoesophageal fistula in a preterm male neonate with respiratiry distress after birth. Postmortem esophagogram and tracheogram revealed tracheal agenesis and tracheoesophageal fistula. Therefore
we
presented the case with brief review of the related literatures.
